AIR: Health Benefits of Fresh Air

The Place of Fresh Air in Health and Healing

Introduction

Water, Food sunshine and etc., are some of the  important elements the body can only do without for some long hours, then days and months before the whole system completely bricks down.

However, the body cannot survive the lack of air or oxygen beyond few minutes.

Air or oxygen, in the specific and vital sense of it, is essential to each of the trillions of cells that make up the human body.

“The strength of the system is, in a great degree, dependent upon the amount of pure air breathed. Air is the free blessing of Heaven, calculated to electrify the whole system.” 1

Air is obviously crucial; after all we can live only a few minutes without breathing. But the quality of the air we breathe is also important. Air pollution can cause illness and death if pollutants become concentrated for several days or weeks, especially for young and very old or for those suffering from congestive heart failure or chronic lung disease.2

Air as a health principle

Air is the 6th of the eight (8) laws or principles of health and healing. These principles of health are simply expressed in the acronym- the NEW START, and they are all about the  simple natural and common things around us and how best to use and avoid some of them for the overall benefit of our health.  The proper use and implementation of these principles of health and healing will, not only add healthy life to your years but maximum efficiency to your existence, in a simple but concise statement; you will archive optimum health by upholding these simple health principle.

Health Benefits of Fresh Air

Let’s acquaint ourselves with the many benefits of fresh air to man and his environment, but it will not be exhaustive though. For now we have to know that fresh air:

  •  Vitalizes the blood
  • It relaxes the mind
  • It Kills many microbes and germs, and
  • Helps clean the lungs

HOW TO GET FRESH AIR

  • First and foremost; you have  to breathe through your nose
  • Avoid tight apparels (it will cramp the body thereby inhibiting ease in respiration) for clarity- tight clothes, belts or waistbands restrict the lungs from expanding fully and in most cases hinder healthy circulation, thus decreasing the delivery of oxygen to the body.
  • Avoid smoking and second-hand smoking
  • Exercise in fresh air
  • Keep windows, especially bedroom windows,  open at all times

The quality of air can vary greatly and it should be a concern to all who desire to archive optimum health. Clean, fresh air comes from the purifying action of nature itself. Therefore make your dwelling place to be as close to nature as possible-plenty of trees, grasses, rivers, and other elements at the state of nature, brooks are advantageous too.

If you must use air conditioners, let it be used wisely. If air conditioners are used, be sure to set them to bring in, at least, a third of the air as fresh air. Also make sure to clean the air ducts and filters on your cooling and heating system regularly.

THE BENEFITS OF DEEP BREATHING

Breathing deeply of the clean fresh air:

  • Relaxes the body
  • Oxygenates the brain for clear thought(objective thinking/reasoning)
  • The exercise (of conscious deep breathing) induces sound sleep
  • Help prevent respiratory infections

 EFFECTS OF FRESH AIR DEPRIVATION

Poor Ventilation — many families suffer from sore throat, lung diseases, and liver complaints because of poor ventilation, which is fresh air in essence. They keep their windows and doors closed; fearing they will take cold…. And then breathe the same air over and over until it becomes impregnated with the poisonous impurities and waste matter thrown off from their bodies, through the lungs and the pores of the skin.3

Impure environment and improper ventilation will cause these diseases and more, among which are:

Sore throat

Lung diseases

Liver complaints, etc.

Air Pollution

The Dictionary definition is that air pollution is the presence of: harmful substances in the air, often consisting of waste from vehicles or industry.  Simply put, it is the contamination of air by unhealthy substances and some other bio-wastes making it unfit for inhalation.

Major Air Pollutants

The major air pollutants in the cities and elsewhere include, many activities of the Industries, motor vehicle exhaust fumes, and smoke (majorly cigarette smoke) are the main contributors to polluted outdoor air.  They add gases, acids, dirt, dust, germs, and ozone to the air.

Solution to Air pollution

The simple and most effective solution to polluted air is to get out of the place or area. If it’s a continuous menace, I believe that the lasting solution and, a better thing to do will be to relocate away from the urban cluster or the cities as much as possible, from where such pollutions occur.

Again, you can eat protective foods to cushion or prevent the effects of air pollution in the boy. Eating protective foods will help prevent the damaging effects of pollution on the body, especially to the lungs. Some of the most protective foods are the rich reds, leafy greens, blue- purples and deep orange-colored plant foods. Be sure to get some at each meal for a healthy lungs and the entire body.

There are several factors that hinder oxygen supply to the body; I want to mention just one of this crucial factor:  HIGH-FAT FOODS

Eating high-fat foods can reduce the oxygen level in our blood, it thereby impede the adequate supply of oxygen to the entire body cell.

Deep Breathing Needed — The  “Stomach, liver, lungs, and brain are suffering for want of (or deprivation of) deep, full inspirations of air, which would electrify the blood and impart to it a bright, lively color, and which alone can keep it pure, and give tone and vigor to every part of the living machinery.” 4

How to Breath properly;

Posture is very important in the practice and maintenance of deep and proper breathing habit.

So, how are you sitting right now? Are you erect in your current posture? Is your spine straight, or are you slouching? Are your shoulders rolled forward?

It is very important to know that body posture affect respiration. Bad posture will impair proper respiration. Therefore, while walking, sitting and whatever position you assume make sure it’s proper and such that will enhance your free use of fresh Air.

Proper breathing procedure:

  • Observe your breathing for a few moments. Is it shallow or deep?

Proper Breathing Test — Place one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. Breathe normally for a moment, noting the movement of each hand as you inhale.

Which hand rises more dramatically?

If it’s the one on your belly, take it off and pat yourself on the back.

You have excellent respiratory technique.

But if it’s the hand on your chest, you not breathing properly.

Make use of your abdominal muscles and the thoracic cavity to aid the lungs in the process of respiration. Doing so will help the lungs expand and contracts property when taking in the vitalizing fresh air and when exhaling the gracious wastes from the body. In deep and proper breathing, your shoulders are not expected to rise or move up and down. Rather it should be your abdomen that should move in and out as you inhale and exhale.

How can you protect yourself and your family?

In other to protect yourself and your entire family, either in corrective of preventive measure, you must move to the country place. Consider moving to a less polluted place. Remember, it is nature itself that helps to clean and revitalize the air.

To help maintain good health, breathe deeply of pure, clean air.

The New Start lifestyle program is based on eight (8) simple principles. They are simple day-to-day occurrence and opportunities which we overlook, but are prime factors to our desires for optimum health.

Sure! We cannot forget to breathe, but practice to breathe deeply and properly for the full benefit of this life sustaining element.
